This is how holiday rental owners described Mazara del Vallo
Mazara del Vallo was defined by historians and intellectuals “the balcony of the Mediterranean”. Its territory, culturally and naturalistically precious, extends from Cape Granitola to Cape Feto and is crossed by the rivers Mazaro and Delia. The south-western coast is rocky and the crystal-clear water sea beds are a real

show more paradise for divers. The south-eastern part is, instead, made up by Tonnarella white sand beach, about five kilometers long, where there are free and equipped beaches.
Borderland between the Greeks and the Phoenicians, the city rose and developed along its canal harbour. Important commercial centre during the Roman period, in 827 AD, and for three centuries, it was dominated by the Arabs, until the Normans settled in Mazara (1072). In 1097 the Earl Roger proclaimed the first Sicilian Parliament there.
The city of 100 churches, Mazara is home to one of the oldest Diocese of Sicily. The beautiful Cathedral rises in the inner city core, between Piazza della Repubblica, where there are the Episcopal Seminary and the Diocesan Museum, and Via del Santissimo Salvatore, where once the old Norman castle rose, which the remnants of the Arc are only visible today.
Mazara is also the most important fishing port of Italy and fishing is the economy leading sector of the area. From the sea, in addition to delicious fish, Dancing Satyr, a bronze statue, dating from the 4th century BC and attributed to Praxiteles, portraying a male character moving in a whirling dance, was brought to light after a millennial sleep.
In Mazara there are numerous restaurants with fish freshly caught accompanied by a good local white or red wine. Don’t forget the many bars and bakeries where you can taste desserts and ice creams.
